There is no fee to attend the camp and food will be provided (with cooking help from Troop 42).  If you need equipment, Troop 42 can also help with that.  If you can't make it overnight, you are welcome to join us for part of the day Saturday.

Registration froms, medical forms for scouts, and climbing registration forms are linked below.  If you have filed medical forms for any other cub camps this summer, they are still valid and you won't need to fill it out again.  The climbing registration form allows the boys to participate in bouldering wall / climbing tower activity

More details and application forms will be provided as they become available. Melody Molina will be serving as registration coordinator. Thanks Melody! We are asked to register for most camps as a pack, and several camps have early registration deadlines in May to receive discounted fees. We will target to collect filled out forms, medical forms, copies of insurance cards (front and back), and checks at the April (Pinewood Derby) pack meeting.

Medical Form - The BSA Medical Form parts A&B and copies of insurance cards (front and back) are required for everyone attending camp, including parents. These forms are valid for 1 year. Click here for the medical form Parts A & B.  Note: the medical form can be downloaded, completed electronically, saved, and printed.

Scout Mass

posted Jan 27, 2011 7:48 PM by Jim Retz

Pack 27 will be having a Scout Sunday service at the 5pm mass on Saturday, February 5 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton church. We hope all Catholics will do their best to attend.  Boys Scouts from Troop 42 will be participating, and the service is also welcome to boys from any other packs or troops who might want to attend.

This is a great chance for scouting to be seen in our religious community, and is a chance for us to thank St. Elizabeth's for chartering our pack. And of course we will be showing a scout is reverent.

Wear your full uniform and arrive by 4:45 to help greet and hand out books before mass. There will be a short ceremony during the service to recognize Scouts that have earned their Catholic religious medals this year. After mass, the boys will help host the hospitality in the church hall (cookies and drinks).

For any non-Catholic families in the pack, you can honor the Scout Sunday program too. A formal program is not required; you could honor Scout Sunday by attending church that weekend in uniform.

Pack 27 Egg Drop

posted Oct 30, 2010 6:50 PM by Cub Scout Pack 27 St. Pius & St. Elizabeth   [ updated Oct 30, 2010 7:01 PM ]

Pack 27 will be having an egg drop at our November pack meeting (November 15 @ 7 pm).

Cubs should prepare an egg protection device ahead of time and bring it to the pack meeting. Eggs will be given out at the pack meeting. Cubs will add the egg into their design and we will drop them from a ladder (around 10-15 feet high, depending on our ladders). After the drop, pack officials will check if the egg successfully survived the drop.

EGG DROP RULES:

  • Cub Scouts and siblings can participate
  • Eggs will be provided by the pack on the night of the egg drop.
  • Dropping a live chicken is NOT permitted! You must make your own container.
  • All material for container and inside padding to be supplied by Cub Scout. Suggestions include jello, cooked pasta, popcorn, crushed newspapers, plastic or styrofoam peanuts-use your imagination.
  • The largest container size allowed is 6" x 6" x 6".
  • Each package must be clearly marked with the owner's name.
  • All boxes will be inspected before the drop-to make sure the box is secure and ready for drop.
  • Drop will be conducted by the Egg Drop staff.
  • Boxes will be opened after drop to check if egg survived the drop or if it is ready for the frying pan!
  • Decision of the egg drop judges is final.

Contests for the Egg Drop event:

Prizes will be awarded for the following contestants

  1. Smallest device  -- This award will be given to the smallest device that successfully completes the Egg Drop.
  2. Scouting Spirit -- This award will be given to the device that shows the best Scouting Spirit. This design does NOT need to successfully complete the Egg Drop.
  3. Best Design -- This award will be given to the device with the most unique/original design that successfully completes the Egg Drop.

Catholic Religious Medal Workshop

posted Oct 7, 2010 9:04 PM by Cub Scout Pack 27 St. Pius & St. Elizabeth   [ updated Oct 7, 2010 9:26 PM ]

The Hawkeye Area Council will be offering a workshop for Cub Scout Catholic Religious awards on Saturday, November 6 at St. Elizabeth parish center. The Light of Christ is for Cub Scouts in 1st and 2nd grade (Tigers or Bears), while Parvuli Dei is for third, fourth, and fifth graders (Wolves and Webelos).

Boys that complete the requirements have the option to attend an archbishop's mass in mid-January in Dubuque where the medals will be blessed and presented to the boys. Our pack will also have a local ceremony in the February time-frame.

The registration form is linked below. Boys and their adult partners can sign up through the Scout shop and there is a workbook that should be completed before attending the workshop. The workbook takes some time to complete, so best to get it ahead of time and work on it gradually. The cost is $3/scout plus the price of the workbook (the pack will pay for the religious medals).
Registration Form Link

For pack members that are not Catholic, Scouts offers many religious medals for various faiths. Please contact Cubmaster Retz or other leaders if you would like more information about Cub Scout religious medals.
