Pack 27 is chartered by the St. Pius and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parishes (Cedar Rapids / Hiawatha, Iowa). Pack 27 was founded in 1956 to bring the timeless values of Scouting to the young boys of our respective communities. In Cub Scouting, boys and their families have fun and adventure in a program that builds character and instills values. Cub Scouting embraces the values of citizenship, compassion, cooperation, courage, faith, health and fitness, honesty, perseverance, positive attitude, resourcefulness, respect, and responsibility. These values come to boys in all parts of the Cub Scout program all while they’re having a great time with their friends and families. Scouting is a great way to make friends, develop skills, have fun and grow into healthy happy and responsible young men. Pack 27 is made up of approximately 60 boys from 1st through 5th Grade. You can join Scouts at any of these grade levels. Each grade may have 1-2 dens (depending on the number of boys). A den is a usually made up of 6-8 boys. Each den has a Den Leader & Den Assistant and together they work towards earning their achievments/badges as follows:
Within the dens, the boys learn skills, work of crafts, go on field trips, hike and play games. The program is very family oriented and parental involvement is very important. The Pack has additional activities over and above the den activities. Many of these take place at Pack Meetings. The Pack meets as a whole group once a month. Pack Meetings are usually the 3rd Monday of each month from 7-8pm at the St. Pius Gym. Activities include the Halloween Costume party, Blue & Gold banquet, pinewood derby, and more! Each Den meets 1-2 times per month and the Den Leaders help designate a night time for these meetings; generally kept to 1 hour. Popcorn Sales - We
fund almost all of the packs activities through one fund raiser each
year. We sell Popcorn. Lots of good popcorn. The kids have a great
opportunity to earn lots of prizes. We start Popcorn sales off in
September and it usually lasts about a month. With the money that the
pack earns from popcorn sales, it funds all the achievement awards and
patches, pack activities, and our pack camping trip. In addition, the
pack provides each den with funds to cover the expenses for its crafts,
activities and projects. Uniform - The navy blue uniform shirt is for Tiger Cubs through Bears (1st - 3rd grade ). The Khaki beige uniform shirt may be worn by the Webelos (4th grade and up). Badges earned throughout the year are provided by the pack. Handbooks - Scouts will need to purchase a handbook each year (Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, Webelos), approximately $6.00 each. We also have several opportunities for parents to volunteer and serve on a committee or help out with your son’s den activities. Remember, this is somethings the whole family can enjoy. |
